according to Google Reader, I’m the first one (that I know) to blog this? how is that possible?
anyway, Jobs revealed the new Apple toys here. The one I’m most excited about is the movie rental service, seeing as how I spend up to two hours a day on the bus. I’m kinda so-so about the rest. I was hoping for a 12-inch MacBook.

I’ve mentioned my opposition to bottled water before. Basically, I find the fact that we import water from Fiji and Norway to be wasteful and the ultimate in American indulgence, especially given the fact that so many people in this world (including those in Fiji!) don’t have access to water at all.
My friend John threw up a great article discussing some of the pros and cons of our addiction to purchasing something we can get for free. I learned a few things; for example, the Fiji Water corporation is working to make Fiji’s water supply cleaner and safer. And, logically; if we’re not going to buy water, we’ll buy cokes instead, which creates just as much waste.
Check it out and let me know what you think.

“Concerns about the bottled-water industry, and increasing corporate control of water, are growing across the country,” said Gigi Kellett, director of the “Think Outside the Bottle” campaign, which aims to encourage people to drink tap water.
San Francisco’s mayor banned city employees from using city funds to buy bottled water when tap water is available. Ann Arbor, Michigan passed a resolution banning commercially bottled water at city events and Salt Lake City, Utah asked department heads to eliminate bottled water.
Critics charge the bottled water industry adds plastic to landfills, uses too much energy by producing and shipping bottles across the world and undermines confidence in the safety and cleanliness of public water supplies, all while much of the world’s population is without access to clean water.

Time had a great photo essay about eating habits from fifteen families around the world. The families are photographed with their food, and Time lists what they spend on food, with the amounts ranging from $1.23 per week to over $500. It’s both fascinating and tragic, and it makes me want to eat a bit less.
thanks: 2+2=5
