my computer is staying here at the Apple Store, so i’ll be offline indefinitely. If you need me, call or send a text. You can get my number from my Facebook page if you don’t have it already.
CCM Patrol
September 24, 2007I’ve been pimping these guys for a while now. They’ve managed to put my thoughts on paper, albeit in a far wittier way than I am capable of, enough times that I think they’re spying on me. I think they first started as a complete deconstruction of all things Tomlin, but their evolution into calling out the entire CCM industry as a whole is a welcome (even if it’s entirely too easy) expose of said industry’s complete ludicrous-ness.
They’ve been a blog since their creation, but have revamped into a sexy new full-on webzine, complete with reviews, features, and a soon-to-come podcast. Here’s a couple of articles that are absolutely worth reading:
Brian McLaren: I’m An Athiest. Not! (proving that no one is safe)
How every Christian band, musician, and gospel singer manages to sound like Coldplay (revealing lazy reviewer’s favorite comparision tool. i’ve done it too)
Introducing Priscilla
July 24, 2007So, on the heels of my little whine fest that I had last night, I have some much better news (didn’t I say that today was a new day?)
Let me introduce you to Priscilla:
It’s a 2005 Saturn Ion 2, with 18, 950 miles, four doors and power everything. The color isn’t my first choice; they called it “dragonfly blue”. I call it, “1993 Teal”. But, it’s a standard, it has a sunroof, and all the speakers work. (what can i say? i’m not a complex fellow). I’ll tell you the story of its purchase later, but for now - I am a happy, happy camper.
I’ve Missed You!
July 2, 2007yes, i have neglected my blogging duty, but quite possibly no one has noticed. A quick recap: i’ve been to Michigan, been sick, been working, and . . . that’s it.
thanks for your patience.
Big Mac, Anyone?
June 14, 2007I saw this a couple weeks ago, but Steven reminded me of it:
Here’s a link to a project comparing actual photos of various fast food products to their ad photos. It’s gross, and yet I’m strangely happy that the McGriddle wasn’t pictured.
A Little Remodeling
June 11, 2007I’ve been planning on switching to WordPress, but in the meantime, I did a little remodeling around here. Please excuse the dust.
Typepad added a new, three column (right) layout that I snapped up and put both here and at I Radio Heaven. I am still playing with the order of the columns, so I can try to keep things clean and uncluttered. If I can figure out a way to add tabs to my header (like many WordPress templates and like Ryan did with Blogger), I’ll probably stay here at Typepad (I think the widgets are better).
The Feeling
April 4, 2007
OK - Time for a quick recap of the The Feeling show I caught a couple weeks ago. I’ve had my grubby little paws on the debut release by the British quintet (12 Stops and Home) for quite a while, and it’s been growing on me. At first, I wrote it off as a cheap and boring The Killers knock-off, but they’re much more melodic and not so post-punk/faux dance rock. They’ve been compared to everyone from ABBA to 10cc to The Rolling Stones, as their stuff is much more influenced by classic acts and harmonies. Oddly enough, according to Planet Sound, they were the most heavily-played band on the UK radio waves.
The Feeling has slowing begun to garner some attention here in the States, with opening slots for The Fray and Razorlight and an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March. I caught them as part of VH1’s You Oughta Know Tour, sandwiched in between Rocco DeLuca and Mat Kearney (sort of a rough bill for them). I missed all of Rocco’s set (and, for the record, Mat Kearney’s too), but I settled in at the bar just in time for The Feeling to take the stage. They’re a tight band. Not too much banter, but singer Dan Gillepse Sells managed to get some laughter from the audience during their set. I wasn’t too familiar with their stuff going into the show. They received the best response for their current single, "Sewn," which is actually one of my least favorite tracks on the album. (I’m a bit more partial to "Rose" and "Blue Piccadilly").
Definitely keep an eye out for The Feeling and catch them the next time they roll through your neck of the woods. (I’d skip this tour though - Mat Kearney? ew.)
